Given their innate need to communicate with their flock and documented talent at mimicry, coupled with their imposed physical isolation, is it any wonder that so many become such good talkers? Greys are often kept as single parrots and most live with clipped wings, which creates an additional level of isolation. Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.91.9.I believe that an individual grey’s extreme talent with human language can also be, however, a reflection of isolation as they live out their lives as captives in single-grey homes. Need to check the literature to find the real story. Breeding says they don't need old hollow tress as they hollow out young trees, status says they need old hollow trees.

The female also a bit scruffy and young looking.

Actually the bird on the left is an immature male (because it has the orange bars on the breast like the female). The caption on the main image says that it's a pair (male and female). Why the hell has someone from the Prime Minister's Cabinet of Australia been editing the page so it switches from "hollow tree trunk" to "closed tree trunk" 22 times?! 68.85.39.148 00:52, 25 August 2007 (UTC) 04:27, 10 July 2010 (UTC) I always thought that the Gang-gang Cockatoo was shy, but also lacking fear of humans, and appeared very friendly, which is why so many of them got taken as pets, or killed by non-native animals.
